In recognition of this donation of land, one of the twin pad ice surfaces will be named in memory of Don Gurney.

Don Gurney grew up in the Bethel area and over the course of his life had been active in the County of Brant operating several successful businesses. He was an avid hockey player in his younger years and supported County sports team.

"With the donation of the land, along with naming a portion of the twin pad arena in his memory, a lasting recognition will be provided for my father and his contribution to the community," said Margaret.

"I believe it's important to provide places for young people to participate in sports and when I read about this project in the newspaper, I wanted to be one of the first individuals to donate. The location is just right as it provides easy access to all residents of the County of Brant."

"The Paris Minor Hockey Association is pleased to support the capital campaign.  We know that there is a great need for more ice time in Paris to support our hockey leagues and to demonstrate our commitment to this new project, the executive wanted to be the first organization to step forward with financial support."- Rick Shannon, President
